Welcome to Sitka, Alaska.

Sitka is thought to be the most beautiful of southeast Alaska cities. Nestled on the west side of Baranof Island, it is flanked on the east by majestic snow-capped mountains, and on the west by the Pacific Ocean. Our climate is mild, but we do get more than our fair share of "liquid sunshine"! Our most valuable natural resource is, without a doubt, the people of Sitka, who share a pride in their home and a love of life in all its small-town splendor!

Sitka is largely a fishing community, so the dress code has taken that road as well. I was really surprised, coming from the east coast when I first went out to a bar and people were wearing rubber boots. They are called X-tra tuffs and people wear them everywhere--to weddings, out to restaurants, for daily walks and rides, for a night on the town. Then might roll them down to the ankle but chances are, you'll see these boots. Don't be surprised or judge anyone by the way the are dressed, a lot of people in Sitka are very wealthy. They will also be very surprised that you either never heard of them or that you haven't owned multiple pairs of these throughout your life.

If you have taken a better photo of Sitka. Please email us a copy and if we like it, we might use it. Sitka is easily managed on foot. Guests are within three blocks of shopping, restaurants, schools, harbor, seashore and just a fifteen minute walk to trails, museums, galleries and central business district. Sitka Tours airport and ferry shuttle buses bring guests right to the door and return guests to the ferry or the airport regardless of the time of day or night for a nominal fee ($3.00-$5.00). Save by purchasing a round-trip ticket for $7.00. Tickets are interchangeable and honored by both the ferry and airport shuttles.

In addition to the many historical sights, museums, Russian Bishop's House (the oldest Russian building in Alaska), Raptor Center (for bald eagle and owl rehabilitation) totem walk at Sitka National Historic Park and separate dance performances by both the Russian folk dancers and Tlingit Indian dancers, Sitka has a wide variety of outdoor activities and tours available to visitors such as: fishing, kayaking, boating, hiking, biking, diving, sailing, flightseeing, wildlife and sealife and wilderness sightseeing, sea bird and whale watching.

Sitka has excellent halibut and salmon fishing and it's only minutes from the door. The local charter boat captains in Sitka take great care with their clients and their clients' catch. They will have your fish processed per your specifications and shipped frozen to your home on the date you select so you will be there to receive your prize catch. They also provide all of the equipment so no need to pack extra gear nor be concerned about what you will do with your fish.
